Born and raised in Los Angeles, Alex grew up immersed in music and started playing guitar at the age of 10. Alex has been a member of numerous bands and music projects since he was 12 years old, performing at many of the venues in and around Los Angeles. Alex began recording his own material at the age of 15, when his father built a home studio.
In 2002, Alex began studying music theory and composition at Pasadena City College. While there, he also studied Classical and Flamenco guitar and performed with the P.C.C. Guitar Quartet. Alex transferred to the Thornton School of Music at the University of Southern California in 2006.
Alex's professional audio career began in 2007 when he was hired as a live sound engineer at the Key Club in West Hollywood.
At the Key Club, Alex worked with a varied array of artists such as The Roots, The Misfits, Q-Tip, Stevie Wonder, Flavor Flav, Foreigner, Venetian Snares, and many more. In 2009, Alex earned a Bachelor of Science in Music Industry from the Thornton School of Music. Soon after graduating, Alex met Jeff Greenberg, owner of The Village Recorder in West L.A., and subsequently joined the Village staff.
Alex is currently a staff engineer at the Village Recorder where he works on a variety of projects from film scores to albums to live radio broadcasts. Alex also stays busy as a freelance recording and mixing engineer. When he isn't engineering or mixing, he can be found producing other artists and working on his own music.
Alex became a voting member of the Recording Academy in 2019.
Gabe Burch.
Matt Dyson is a senior engineer at Village Studios in Los Angeles, CA. He climbed through the ranks there and learned how to properly run a session by assisting engineering legends such as Niko Bolas, Ed Cherney, Alan Parsons, and more. He engineered for producers like Larry Klein, David Foster, John Hill, Ryan Lewis and learned from their approaches towards working with artists and musicians.
Most recently he has been an engineer on several high profile projects including Kesha’s latest record “High Road”, and the 2nd season of Showtime’s show “Kidding”.
Lately he has been mixing projects, tracking scores for tv/film, while still managing to produce and record independent artists outside of major sessions at the Village. If not in the studio, he can be found spending time with his beautiful wife Katherine, and perfect little daughter, Joey Rae.
Karl Wingate.
Karl Wingate hails from Charm City, aka Baltimore, Maryland. After graduating from Johns Hopkins’ Peabody Conservatory of Music with an MA in Audio Sciences, he journeyed to Los Angeles in 2015 where he abruptly fell into our collective lap here at the Village. Since then, he’s earned notable credits with some of our favorite artists, producers, engineers and composers — and if we’re being totally honest, has saved us from certain doom on more than one occasion. Karl always provides our brand of professional service, but if you’re nice to him he may befriend you with a coveted bag of UTZ Crab Chips or the location of LA’s best Old Bay wings.
Branko Presley.
Born and raised in Rio de Janeiro, Pedro Calloni has been on staff at the Village Studios since 2017 after having graduated from Berklee in Music Production & Engineering. He has engineered a wide variety of projects from GRAMMY nominated album "The Lost Boy" by YBN Cordae to Billboard #1 album "Come Tomorrow" by Dave Matthews Band. He is managed by Rupert Lincoln at Hills Artists as a mixing engineer, having worked with the likes of King Henry, Joy Oladokun and Maddie Jay. In addition to engineering, Pedro is also a musician, having toured as a drummer with RCA recording artist Sasha Sloan in 2019.
Alisse Laymac.
Branko Presley initially got his start in music as the lead guitarist in a local metal band in Farmdale, Ohio. Giving up further band work to join the USAF for a 1-term enlistment after high school. While not working for the Air force went to school Youngstown State University briefly for a major in Vocal Performance. Eventually reevaluating and enrolling at The Conservatory of Recording Arts and Sciences. Better known as CRAS in Phoenix, AZ.
Branko has recorded artists such as Nicole Scherzinger of the Pussycat Dolls, One Republic's Netflix Documentary, FOH for John Mayer, assisted on Projects such as 6lack East Atlanta Love Letter, assisted on The motion picture Norm of the North, assisted on A Star Is Born.
He enjoys making friends with the clients and being a support system for them. He sings, produces, and is always songwriting when not at The Village.
Donna Mikayla Mundy.
Donna Mikayla is an up and coming Assistant Engineer at The Village Studios and a Producer and Artist in her own right. She is particularly good at creating a comforting environment and inspiring creativity, emotion and authenticity in Artist’s at work. Clients often get excited that she “gets them” and their art.
She has a very high percentage of clients asking for her assistance when they return to the studio. Her officially documented credits include Assistant Engineer on Mark Ronson’s 2019 track, Late Night Feelings and Background Vocals on Gary Clark Jr.’s 2019 track, This Land.
Alisse Laymac is a Los Angeles based audio engineer, producer, and singer/songwriter. She grew up in a small town outside of Flint, Michigan and started studying music when she was about 7 years old. She began classical vocal training when she was 11 years old, specifically in italian opera, and continued throughout her secondary schooling.
Following high school, Alisse attended Berklee College of Music and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Music Production & Engineering. She now works as an audio engineer at one of the best recording studios in the country, meeting and working with people that inspire her everyday. She plans to continue her learning and experience in the music industry and hopes to one day be producing and writing music that inspires the next generation of artists and creatives.
